Family Guide

Thank you for allowing me to create beautiful photos for your family! My style is “lifestyle” and I love capturing families playing, snuggling, being silly and just loving on each other.

All sessions are shot in the evening for the best optimal lighting- the timeframe will depend on the season and the sun. Just send me an email if you’d like to know the best time for the season. Please read through the following information as you prepare for your photoshoot. I look forward to meeting with you and your loved ones!

Make sure the kids are well rested and fed prior to the photo shoot. Evening shoots can be close to dinner time, so it’s a good idea to offer a heavy snack or an early meal before the shoot.

I’m also a huge fan of bribery for the little ones who need a little extra encouragement- whether it be ice cream after, or gummy candy during, treats can definitely help sessions go smoothly. Just avoid anything that has crumbs or chocolate.. and keep in mind some kinds of candy can stain kids mouths!

What to wear-

I always recommend you plan Mom’s outfit first, then coordinate everyone else to her. Mom can wear a pattern or a solid color. If you choose a pattern, match the colors from Mom’s outfit in everyone else’s clothing.

Want light and airy photos? Wear light or pastel colors, or neutrals like white, gray, light blue or beige. Going for a Fall vibe? Stick with Autumn tones. Neutrals or earth tones are a personal favorite, they are timeless and classic; they will never date an image.

Avoid clothing that is neon, has logos or graphics. Jeans make your photos look casual, so only wear them if you want a very laid back look. Don’t have multiple people wear patterns, it makes photos too busy. One person wearing a pattern is okay, just make sure to coordinate the print’s colors with everyone else.

Nice shoes look great in photographs, but bring an extra pair for walking! We will be moving to different photo locations and there may be mud or sand.

If there is a high chance of rain or snow (60% or greater) forecast for the day and time of your photo shoot I will recommend we reschedule. I’m not able to photograph if it is raining or snowing, due to potential damage to my camera. I try to give as much notice as possible if we need to move the photo shoot! If it looks gray and dreary outside, don’t worry. Some of the best light is overcast light.

Your family’s health is important. There isn’t anything worse than a sick and unhappy child. At the first sign that you or your kids aren’t well, please let me know and we will reschedule for the soonest available date.

Being late, it happens! Life happens! I will wait up to 15 minutes before having to leave to do my next session. My contact information is on every email and on the contact page of the website. Just give me a call if you know you’re running behind so I can plan accordingly.

I truly love capturing genuine, authentic memories for your family and I can’t wait for you to see the final product. It generally takes about a week for me to edit and upload the files to your viewing gallery, but it may be sooner.

I look forward to the fun we will have! Thanks for taking the time to prepare for your session. Together we will make some incredible memories and timeless images.
