Lifestyle Newborn Photography
Lifestyle photos are very heavy on the candid and documentary style of photography. I’ll be photographing your beautiful life together, in a relaxed way. I’d leave any ‘props’ that you’d want to include up to your discretion. You can absolutely use your own swaddles, blankets, hats, basket, headbands, outfits etc. for the baby. Outfit changes are absolutely okay as we get some more variety in the pictures of baby.
Sessions are 60 minutes, and I will try to be as quick and efficient in getting all the photos you want. I try to have a speedy turnaround time and will have your gallery to you in a week or less!
The best time for in-home sessions is during daylight hours, usually in the morning (starting your session between 10am – 1pm gives the best light and happiest babe!). I realize sometimes with big siblings/family members this time frame is not always possible, but I will do my best to work with whatever time is best for your family and baby.
I LOVE natural light! We will be embracing your home’s natural light (open up those window blinds!), turning off the overhead lights and taking advantage of the natural brightness as much as possible. I’ll pop you all next to windows as much as possible for those pics. Even on the cloudiest (and even rainiest too!) days, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with how much the outside light comes in to give you the best possible pictures!
Change and feed babe shortly before your session time. This ensures baby has a full belly and will hopefully be happy and cooperative for pics! If you would like nursing photos, then wait to feed baby until I arrive and we will take those first.
Turn up that heat! I’ve found that baby is soooooo much happier in a warm environment. This allows for babe to be comfortable for any naked/diaper pictures and isn’t so upset to have their clothes changed if the house is extra warm.
What to wear? I tell moms to pick their outfit first and build others outfits around that. Choose solid light colors, neutrals and white. Avoid anything that has a logo or text.
I do encourage moms to wear something comfortable and flowy so as not constricting on their fresh postpartum body. Having a light sweater or cardigan to go over your outfit works well too for pictures.
Babies look great when photographed in solid light colors and form fitting clothing. A simple white form fitting outfit or onesie looks beautiful in photos.
You will want to open all the shades and curtains on your windows before I arrive- I’ll do a quick walk through for the rooms that give the best light. We will be photographing most likely using the master bed, in the nursery, the living room and by lots of windows! These are the areas of your home that you may want to prepare for – hide all cables and cords, declutter etc.
Lastly, enjoy! This is such a beautiful time in your lives and I am honored to help document it.
