Senior Guide
Senior portraits are the perfect time for your senior to show off their personality and hobbies. It’s also a lasting memory of who they are right now.
For senior photographs, I recommend simple, classic clothing. This is because it is a photo that follows you for quite some time. For example, your Mom will probably have it displayed in her house forever. So you want to be able to look at it and not say, “Wow, what was I thinking when I chose that.” Lots of times the things that really tend to “date” photos are prints, shoes, glasses, super trendy styles. You can do a few images like that, but choose at least one classic outfit.
Make sure you know your school’s yearbook deadline! Deadlines for school yearbook submissions vary widely for each school, with some deadlines as early as October of your child’s senior year and some as late as February. Remember it takes 2 weeks following your portrait session before the images will be available, and we live in Ohio! So the weather in the Fall starts to be unpredictable and can create challenges when scheduling your high school senior portrait session. The best time for senior pictures is July, August or September. This will guarantee that you get the images you want and leave you feeling much less stressed.
Know your high school senior’s schedule. Today’s seniors are busier than ever before with extracurricular activities and sometimes these conflict with the best times to take senior portraits. Ideally you want to schedule your session in the hour or two before sunset, which is called “Golden Hour.” You get beautiful warm light that is perfect for senior photos.
Don’t worry about having perfect skin. I include blemish retouching and teeth whitening in all my packages! Do make sure your clothing is ironed and free of wrinkles, as clothing retouching and fly away hair removal is an additional charge. Get plenty of rest the night before the photo shoot and bring a comb or brush with you.
I am honored to capture this time in your high school student’s life. My goal is to create a family heirloom that will be passed on for generations.
